The impact of childhood lead poisoning on affordable housing

Article Abstract:

Property owners are finding it costly to comply with EPA regulations that aim to reduce the presence of poisonous lead substances in low-cost homes. Children exposed to lead in house paint were found to have learning disabilities and behavioral problems. However, the cost of repainting houses is likely to raise the values and render low-cost housing out of reach of low income families.
