Overseas investors are being attracted by the political and economic climate in the UK, according to Capital and Income Trust Chief Executive John Barroll Brown. He has been able to make extensive use of his international connections, and believes that the company's portfolio could reach 1 billion pounds sterling in the medium term. His investment strategy has focused on purchasing high-profile buildings in locations on the edge of London, England, and he has been prepared to take considerable risks.

UK property will excel concludes IPF debate

The UK property market is still feeling the effects of high vacancy rates and new employment patterns, and prospects for rent increases remain limited. However, the market is likely to produce very good returns during the next five years, according to the annual debate of the Investment Property Forum (IPF). Long-term property investment produces returns similar to those achieved by equities, and property company shares are likely to produce excellent returns.

London-based property speculator Ashtenne spent nearly 60 million pounds sterling on untrendy industrial units in northern England and Scotland during 1994. The company enjoys a rent roll of 6.8 million pounds sterling and it has enjoyed annual profitability since its inception in 1989. Ashtenne was set up by Ian Watson and Morgan Jones, former colleagues at Arlington Securities.
