RICS recce to aid rebuilding

Article Abstract:

Two representatives of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) visited Kosovo to understand how its members could work in the country and to demonstrate its willingness to help in similar situations. Many war damaged properties were found to be in need of reconstruction and many businesses suffered irreparable damage along with about 80,000 houses. A major difficultly concerning the property was determinating the rightful ownership, as documentation had been removed by the Serbs. The RICS members pointed out the immediate aim should be to restore the infrastucture.

Universal ambition

Article Abstract:

Some of the UK based developers looking to expand overseas favour making alliances with companies already located in the foreign country whilst others, such as British Land, prefer to concentrate on the domestic market. Developers which have created overseas partnerships can benefit from the domestic firm's local knowledge and contacts when they undertake joint ventures. Operating on a worldwide basis has not been as important to developers, in the UK, as it has been for other parts of the property industry, such as property agents.
