Article Abstract:

The West Midlands, England, is seen by representatives of the leisure and retail industries as a possible area for further expansion of their businesses concluded a report detailing the results of 75 interviews. Some 68% of the leisure and retail occupiers interviewed in Dec 1996 felt the area needed more leisure facilities. The refurbishment of the Bull Ring shopping centre in Birmingham, England was seen as vital for the continued prosperity of the city. Some 91% of respondents predicted that consumers would increase spending levels during 1997.

Article Abstract:

Some 31% of retailers felt that the East Midlands, England, should have more shops whilst 49% of leisure providers felt the area lacked sufficient leisure facilities. Some 100 head offices of leisure and retail companies in the UK were questioned about the East Midlands in Apr 1997. Most leisure and retail occupiers favoured the use of uniformed police officers in town centres and the use of closed circuit television to help prevent crime. Some 70% of occupiers were sure that consumer spending will increase during 1997-1998.

Article Abstract:

A survey of 100 major leisure and retail businesses occupying property in central and outer London, England, examined a range of issues including property, security and traffic issues. The majority of leisure operators feel the area has reached its optimum in leisure outlets but one third of retailers believe more shops could be introduced. Three quarters of retail and leisure operators believe consumer spending will increase during 1997.
