Shopping for clues

Article Abstract:

The UK National Retail Planning Forum's Shopping Scheme Development Pipeline Validation Project addressed the problem of estimating how much retail space is due to come on stream. It looked in particular at this issue in relation to the use of planning consent information. One of its main aims was to investigate the age of permissions, and its principle measure was thus how long each site had been the subject of a live permission on a continuous basis. Sites were categorized on the basis of their likelihood of implementation, to show the proportion of the consent pipeline that might proceed to development.

Slough Estates to chase 48m pounds sterling damages in court

Article Abstract:

A long-standing conflict between developer Slough Estates and Welwyn Hatfield council has culminated in a High Court case. The developer is claiming that the council acted illegally when it secretly relaxed a restrictive tenant mix deal for the 18,580 sq mt Hatfield Galleria, a retail and leisure development. Slough Estates is seeking damages of 48 million pounds sterling, believing that its nearby Howard Shopping Centre was badly affected by the council's actions.
