Silk suits with sackcloth linings

Article Abstract:

Salaries for surveyors in the UK real estate industry are improving as the market starts to recover confidence. Average salary rises have been between 5% and 6% for 1994, though turnover has not greatly increased, affecting margins. Average respondents have a salary of 30,000 pounds sterling annually. Salaries have become more important and job security less important in 1994, and job mobility is increasing. Employers will have to pay more to retain top staff, but this could affect the company through increasing overheads.

Developers take public transport

Article Abstract:

The planned public gas-powered bus service for Northampton, England, could serve as a model for towns and cities across the UK. The scheme will certainly be welcomed by the government, which is keen to see public transport playing a key role in determining which land is released for development. The initiative is particularly significant because it is being proposed by a consortium of developers and contractors, and is likely to have a long-term effect on the nature of property development.
