The greenhouse effect

Article Abstract:

There has been falling demand for leisure-related property in Cornwall, England, over recent years, even though tourism is the county's most profitable industry. However, there are now signs that this sector could be starting to revive, with agents having already seen a rise in enquiries for hotel property. The retail property market is still dominated by Truro, England, which has a very wide catchment area. The county's office property market is also dominated by Truro, where a sharp rise in demand has led to a shortage of accommodation.

All dressed up but nowhere to shop

Article Abstract:

The failure of the Colonnades shopping centre has had a severe impact on retailing in the city of Bath, England, as a whole. However, plans are now underway to ensure that the development is used in some way. There are also plans for General Accident's Southgate centre, which could be completely redeveloped, with the floorspace being considerably increased. The city's main problem is that most of the retail units currently available are too small for large multiple retailers or too expensive for small retailers.

Coming up in the fast lane

Article Abstract:

The property industry in the north-west quadrant of the M25 has been in recession over recent years, and is now only just beginning to show signs of recovery. There is around 3.3 million sq ft of vacant office accommodation in the area, with supply having fallen by 25% since the second half of 1994 and by 43% since 1993. Severe oversupply problems experienced during the recession are now diminishing, with a particularly positive effect being felt from the falling level of new accommodation.
