The right attitude

Article Abstract:

Scotland's Glasgow International Airport is the fourth busiest in the U.K. and its owner Glasgow Airport Ltd. has plans to further increase international passenger traffic. The opening of a new, 100 million pounds sterling terminal in 1994 has resulted in passenger numbers rising to some 5.5 million per year and this is set to reach over 8 million by 2010. The company has also formed a joint venture with several government-backed development organisations in a bid to attract inward investment to greenfield sites around the airport.

Citizens: prepare for take-off

Article Abstract:

The proposals to build a second runway at Manchester Airport are expected to be approved, despite a temporary delay and government inquiry. Manchester needs to build a top-quality infrastructure if it is to achieve its objective of becoming a major European city. The city has the reputation for being the second financial centre in Britain, after London, and needs to attract further investments to build links with Europe. Manchester Airport hosts 15 million travellers per year.

Hard shoulder blues

Article Abstract:

The region surrounding the M40 motorway, England, should benefit from plans to improve access to this route. Twons include High Wycombe which has seen a drop in unemployment to 5.1% of the labor force in 1995 compared with 7.4% two years previously. Air transportation could be improved with the possible release of part of a former US air base at Cherwell for usage by civilians. An airport was proposed close to Abingdon but this proposal has been withdrawn.
