Threats or promises?

Article Abstract:

The outcome of the 1997 general election will have implications for the UK property industry. The Liberal Democratic party has promised to introduce new plans concerning urban renewal and to encourage investment in cites by reducing the tax liability of investors. The Conservative party has pledged to extend their present policies on the renovation of urban areas. The Labour party has promised to improve the planning procedures involved in large development projects. All of the parties have pledged to decrease the time spent on the administration and approval of planning applications.

A victory for common sense

Article Abstract:

A series of negligent valuation claims in the late 1980s led to the issue being discussed in the U.K.'s House of Lords in mid-1996. The law lords have provided advice to the courts as to how damages should be calculated in cases where negligence has been proved. The decision by the House of Lords overrules a Courts of Appeal decision that valuers should be responsible for the total losses incurred if they have arisen from a negligent valuation.

Labour wins industry confidence: although 70% of investors expect a Labour victory in the next election, the prospect does not alarm them

Article Abstract:

Research by Hillier Parker shows that the property market under a Labour government would see a rise in demand for office space, improved rental growth and increased consumer spending. The research also shows that the property industry is unperturbed by the prospects of a Labour governemnt, with some believing it would have positive effects.
