Tug-of-war over land

Article Abstract:

Sue Horn, a single nurse lived happily in Lakewood, Ohio, U.S. till she learnt that the Lakewood city council had decided to demolish her home along with 60 others and replace it with 200 luxury condominiums, a shopping mall, and a parking garage, being developed by a private developer. The details of the tug-of-war between the residents of Lakewood and the city representatives are discussed.

The cost of open space

Article Abstract:

The trend to donate or sell part of the scenic land close to urban areas to conservationists or government agencies for tax rebates is discussed. The restrictions imposed on development of the property by the relevant conveyance instruments causes fall in property rights for the seller. Paradoxically, the scarcity of space created by such instruments increases the real estate prices all over.

Where will people live? Land trusts confront competing affordability concerns

Article Abstract:

Low and moderate income households are affected due to the conservation of land as affordable land that can be used for development has decreased considerably, thus reducing the number of new homes for young families. A balance should be attained between land conservation, affordable housing and jobs, which can be achieved using different models as solutions.
