When the barriers fail

Article Abstract:

Over 76% of UK businesses questioned considered that they were not fully protected against criminal activity because of the location of their buildings. Sites in central urban areas were more exposed to petty crimes whilst buildings in rural areas were more likely to suffer from arson attempts. Some property companies have introduced their own security measures as a service to their occupiers of which many find the expense of installing security devices too expensive. It is estimated that the annual cost of crime for UK businesses is 5.8 billion pounds sterling.

Pleasant revolt

Article Abstract:

The UK Countryside March was supported by many rural members of the property industry, who felt they should show their allegiance to their clients in the country. The March was held in London, England, on Mar. 1, 1998. Country people felt they needed to show the depth of feeling about keeping countryside pursuits, agricultural problems and the maintenance of rural communities. They considered the Labour government did not understand the particular needs of the countryside because most of its support has come from urban areas.
