Will the flat tax flatten the housing market?

Article Abstract:

The 17% flat tax proposed by Rep. Richard Armey and Sen. Richard Shelby is a tax system that sets one rate across all income levels, eliminating possible loopholes for individuals who attempt to evade taxation. The system has gained strong acceptance for eliminating preferential tax treatment and encouraging work effort and productivity. International studies have also shown that such a tax system will not negatively affect the real estate market, a fear that has been well-expressed by housing developers.

For profit and non-profit developers: united we stand?

Article Abstract:

The introduction of the low income housing tax credit program in 1989 has encouraged the development of new partnerships between profit and not-for-profit property developers, which are two groups with different agendas. In the long run, the two will have to continue working together because both stand to benefit materially in the production of affordable housing and the continued revitalization of the nation's communities
