Journey to the New World: The Ellis Island Database

Ellis Island Immigration Station was the point of embarkation of ships passengers to New York from 1892. A database providing information about the immigrants is available online and the search capabilities have been improved since its launch in 2001. T he author describes searches she made for Eastern European ancestors whose names were spelled in various ways.
