C. Martin Wilbur (1907-1997)

Article Abstract:

C Martin Wilbur was the quintessential historian who never allowed history to be subservient to politics. The Dayton, OH-born former chairman of Columbia University's University Seminar on Modern China and Professor Emeritus of Chinese History grew up, not surprisingly, in China where he was the son of a YMCA family. Wilbur authored such books as 'Sun Yat-sen: Frustrated Patriot,' and 'The Nationalist Revolution and China, 1923-1928.' He died in Haverford, PA, on Jun 18, 1997.

John Dragon Young

Article Abstract:

John Dragon Young, historian, died in 1996. Young was brought up in Hong Kong, where he returned to after completing his BA, MA and PhD in the US. Young was appointed Research Officer of the Centre of Asian Studies at the University of Hong Kong in 1977, and his career continued with stints at the Hong Kong Baptist College; Modern Chinese History Society of Hong Kong; Chu Hai College; San Francisco Mayor's Office; and the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Arvind Narayan Das (1948-2000)

Article Abstract:

An obituary of the Indian historian Arvind Narayan Das, who died on 6 August 2000 in Amsterdam, is presented. Das was an international scholar and he is remembered for his work on India especially that which relates to his native Bihar.
