Hamburg memories

Article Abstract:

The separation of German historical memory into perpetrator and victim memories as not reflective of the complexity of a community's memory is discussed. Memorials and city cemeteries in Hamburg dating from the period post-1945 show that the cities memories always encompassed both perpetrators and victims. What changed between this period and the 1980s was the relative emphasis.
