Is there a power transition between the U.S. and China? The different faces of national power

Article Abstract:

China scores high on most traditional measures of national power, but it continues to perform poorly in information technology and human capital, the important assets that are necessary to promote productivity and sustain affluence in modern economies. It is argued that China can become superpower if it develops its human capital and undertakes technological innovations.

Taiwan in 2005: Strategic interaction in two-level games

Article Abstract:

Taiwan's internal politics and its external relations have become more nuanced and complicated with the intensification of political competition at home and multifaceted interactions abroad. Analysis that assumes a unitary government and that privileges official or military affairs would fail to capture important aspects of the changing reality.

Taiwan in 2004: Electoral contests and political stasis

Article Abstract:

The outcomes of Taiwan's presidential election in March 2004 and its legislative election in December 2004 indicate political stasis rather than change. The reelection of president George W. Bush points further to political continuity in Taiwan's relation with the United States.
