Article Abstract:

French vocabulary terms related to railroad travel are highlighted in an essay on the S.N.C.F. (Societe Nationale des Chemins de Fer). Tickets, reservations, and services offered on the trains are covered. Some euphemisms and pleonasms unrelated to train travel are also discussed. Article text is in French, with English translation provided for some terms.

Le suffixe en -erie

Article Abstract:

Many neologisms are being formed with the suffix '-erie' in contemporary French, following the model of 'boulangerie.' The terms are used on store signs or to form new corporate names. Examples include la "Coifferie," "Baguetteries," "Sandwicheries," "Omeletterie," "Braderie," "Bambinerie" and "Voyagerie." Article text is in French.
