Louise Labe and the "climat Lyonnois."

Article Abstract:

Louise Labe's love poems, published as 'Evvres' in 1555, were printed because of the permissive atmosphere in Lyons, France, at the time. Labe's work is usually viewed as produced by a single dissonant voice, passionately arguing for feminist concerns. However, the intellectual context of Lyons in the mid-16th century looked for a contemporary Sappho to voice its claim to cultural superiority.
