Sino-Japanese rivalry and its implications for developing nations
Article Abstract:
The rapid economic development, larger size and greater international influence of the People's Republic of China (PRC) give it a more important position than Japan, but its neighbors are also concerned about its assertive, dominant diplomacy and increasing defense capabilities. Therefore, even as most developing nations take a supportive stand to China publicly, they consider Japan important too.

The tactics employed by Japan in peacemaking efforts in Southeast Asia based on economic aid sanctions is described. Japan seeks to resolve the conflicts between parties rather than promoting human right values as revealed by case studies of their efforts in Cambodia and Burma.
