South Korea in 2007: scandals and summits

Article Abstract:

The article discusses the economic growth, political democracy and various controversies and scandals faced by South Korea in 2007. The major issues discussed is the case of Shin Jeong's fake diploma, the Taliban kidnapping of Christian missionaries and South Koreans, and the Samsung bribery scandal revealing large conglomerates routinely bribing politicians and government bureaucrats.

South Korea in 2006: Nuclear standoff, trade talks, and population trends

Article Abstract:

North and South Korea continue to have a volatile relationship after North's purported nuclear test in October 2006. Free trade agreement talks with the United States dominated South Korean politics in 2006, while demographic trends in the rapid aging of the population, record low fertility rate and the increasing intermarriages were noteworthy.
