The Bondswoman's Narrative: Text, paratext, interext and hypertext

Article Abstract:

The Bondwoman's Narrative is generalized to the extent that it could refer to any of the oppressive social structures in the nineteenth century, not just those operating on the basis of race in North America. The Bondwoman's Narrative requires its readers and scholars in depth intellectual interrogation and an ability to challenge fixed interpretations of the manuscript's depiction of race and experimentation with genre.
