The export growth-economic growth nexus: a causality analysis

Article Abstract:

Previous studies analyzing the causality relationship between export growth and economic growth have generated divergent results due to a variety of factors. However, a new study was conducted which concentrated on the economic performance of newly-industrialized countries. The results showed that some countries such as Israel and Mexico exhibited the causality relationship between export growth and economic growth while others such as Pakistan did not. The results also suggest that simultaneous causality may occur. From the observations, it can be deduced that the growth causality structure is economy-specific and a general theory cannot be established.

Export growth and economic growth: a reexamination of some time-series evidence of the Malaysian experience

Article Abstract:

Economic growth data tracking Malaysia's economic development between 1963 and 1993 were analyzed to determine the impact of export-oriented economic policies on economic growth. Using cointegration and error-correction modeling techniques, the study revealed that Malaysia's development can be a attributed to a bi-directional growth in exports and productivity. The study supports previous assertions about the causality structure of export growth and economic growth.
