Trends in China's transition toward a knowledge economy

Article Abstract:

The significant trends in the growth of information and communication technology sectors in China are described. Chinese policymakers would have to make some critical choices that would shape the development and economy and affect its position in global IT industry by transforming China from being a technology market taker to a market maker.

An assessment of China's Taiwan policy under the third generation leadership

Article Abstract:

The Taiwan policy of China's third leadership generation focuses primarily on the hope that the Taiwan issue would not delay or undermine the progress of China's economic development. China's Taiwan policy is founded on two basic pillars, 'utilizing the US to suppress Taiwan' and 'appealing to the Taiwanese public'.

China-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement: shaping future economic relations

Article Abstract:

The China-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement, proposed in Nov 2000, would establish a free trade zone between China and all member nations by 2010. The main challenge to this arrangement is competition by ASEAN and China for foreign investment and similarity in all these nations' industrial and trade structures.
