48 hours in the life of Edinburgh

Article Abstract:

It is particularly exciting to visit Edinburgh, Scotland, at New Year, as the city holds elaborate celebrations. The city is made up of the Old Town, which has streets laid out to the medieval pattern and narrow alleys, and the New Town, made up of Georgian terraces and squares. It is compact enough to be explored on foot, and there are many interesting cafes, restaurants and bars. For those interested in culture, it has the National Gallery of Scotland, the Gallery of Modern Art and the National Portrait Gallery.

Nature's foam bath

Article Abstract:

White-water rafting can be both frightening and exhilarating. It is necessary to battle against the great power of the water, and this can bring great excitement. With modern equipment, the risks are minimal, even though it may appear that you are at the mercy of the water. In the UK, the best rafting rivers are located in the Scottish Highlands, especially the Tay and River Orchy. There is a great sense of satisfaction to be gained from travelling a long watercourse.

Bison? In Britain?

Article Abstract:

Colin Ellis, who breeds bison at Bush Farm in Wiltshire, UK, is among farmers who raise unsual breeds. He has a herd of over sixty bison, and by mid-July eight calves had been born in 1996. There is some joking about the unusual herd, but with the beef crisis, bison could prove to be profitable. Catherine Mack of Norwood Farm, near Norton St. Philip, Somerset, UK, welcomes visitors to see her unusual breeds. The UK agricultural industry needs such innovation.
