A brick is a brick is a brick. Or what?
Article Abstract:
Carl Andre's work 'Equivalent VI' consisting of two layers of 60 firebricks arranged in a rectangle was estimated at $300,000 to $350,000 (195,000 pounds sterling to 228,000 pounds sterling) by Sotheby's in 1993. Many British critics were not impressed by this work. Carl Andre, who was acquitted of murdering his wife by pushing her from a window, is the nephew of Raymond Baxter, UK television presenter. 'Equivalent VI,' owned by Charles Saatchi, did not sell at the New York Sotheby's auction.

Fundamental fault that divides us
Article Abstract:
The world is now experiencing multiple ideological confrontations, according to Samuel P. Huntington, director of the John M. Olin Institute for Strategic Studies at the Center for International Affairs, Harvard University. These are based on culture, bringing civilisations rather than different political or economic systems into conflict. He sees civilisation as the new driving force in world affairs, and identifies eight main civilisations.

This time the mob has right on its side
Article Abstract:
The majority of people in the UK want ownership of handguns to be made illegal, yet the six Conservative members of the 11-man Home Affairs Select Committe have voted against a ban. It could be that the Conservatives are hoping that the people will forget and that there will be no need for legislation, are taking notice of the police suggestion that a ban is not practical, and that they do not want to upset those who shoot as a pastime.
