A bumper harvest for Wheat

Article Abstract:

The music of guitar rock band Wheat, which has recently released a new album, 'Hope And Adams,' is close to that of early REM in both style and spirit. The vocal harmonies and guitar lines are very natural, and there is a strong trace of pre-punk musical influences. The members of the group - singer/guitarist Scott Levesque, drummer Brendan Harney and second guitarist Ricky Brennan - do not like to reveal very much about their musical strategies, but it is clear that a sense of place is vital to their music's development.

They're in big in Sweden and coming this way

Article Abstract:

Swedish rock group Soundtrack Of Our Lives seems set to gain international acclaim with its forthcoming single 'Instant Repeater 99.' The group has already gained a strong following in the UK, and it has been invited to play with Lou Reed and Bob Dylan at The Bridge festival in Malmo, Sweden. In Sweden, the group already plays to crowds of at least 10,000, but it is not unwilling to play in very small venues in the UK. Its members behave like typical rock stars, but they are also very serious about their music.

Big in Japan ... but anywhere else?

Article Abstract:

Japanese pop music has generally been regarded rather negatively in the UK, and few Japanese musicians have been successful in the UK. However, the continued growth of the club scene in the UK has provided an outlet for more underground Japanese artists, and Japanese club music is gaining credibility. Japanese groups that are establishing a niche in clubs in London, England, include Pizzicato 5, Ken Ishii, Cornelius and the Boom Boom Satellites.
