A caring, not just providing, profession

Article Abstract:

Barbara Astley and her husband had seven children of their own before they applied to act as foster parents and since then have fostered over 100 children. Some have remained in their house for just one night, one has been adopted by them and another is still there being fostered over 12 years after he first came. They have fostered coloured children but this is not done now, children being considered to fare best in homes of their own culture. Some have come just because their parents were ill, others because they were ill-treated, sexually abused or neglected.

Industry takes green gripes on board

Article Abstract:

Road- and air-based courier services are being increasingly seen as partly responsible for growing problems with noise and air pollution. There is now growing pressure on courier services from the general public and from environmental organisations to improve their environmental record. This has already prompted TNT to announce plans to move to a new 40 million pounds sterling hub in Liege, Belgium, thus avoiding opposition in Germany to night flights.

Why 'temping' is so tempting

Article Abstract:

Many companies lay off their computer staff and buy in skilled people when required. The change from mainframe to open systems provides the opportunity to employ those with wider experience. Computer staff agencies are flourishing in the 1993 recession. They keep pay rates up to about 1,000 pounds sterling a week. Computer People has 750 contract staff working in the UK. Contract staff need to keep up to date with latest developments.
