A constable overnight

Article Abstract:

Leicestershire Police are running a scheme for probationary police officers to experience a day with an ethnic minority family. Leicestershire is the first force to implement such a project which at the moment is voluntary but may become mandatory. Officers spend 24 hours with an ethnic family, in the expectation that knowledge will dispel prejudice. So far 20 officers from an intake of 100 have volunteered for the scheme.

Do have a cigar, Sir, while I place your bet

Article Abstract:

Ladbroke, William Hill and Coral betting shops attempt to attract richer customers by offering special rooms and privilege treatment. The older, poorer clients were used to the unappealing decor of old-fashioned bookies. Some introduce air conditioning as most clients are male smokers. Women are rarely seen in the bookie's except as staff. Betting is still considered unacceptable. Evening opening becomes legal in 1993.

Not identical at all

Article Abstract:

Schools are often unaware of the special needs of twins, with most not having a policy on issues such as whether to separate twins. Twins often share the same classroom, and even the same desk, which may not be to their benefit. Teachers must recognise that each twin is an individua, and that separating them may sometimes be the best policy.
