A day in the High Court: love, race, sex, money, class, cricket - and death

Article Abstract:

A number of high profile court cases took place in the London High Court on July 15 1996. These include the case about the rightful heir to the title of Baron Moynihan, following the death of the 3rd Baron in 1991, the libel lawsuits brought by UK cricket players, Ian Botham and Allan Lamb, against Imram Khan, former Pakistani cricket player, the divorce of Charles and Diana, Prince and Princess of Wales, and the appeal by policemen, victims of the accident at the Hillsborough, Sheffield, UK, football ground, who had been refused compensation for post-traumatic stress disorder.

A cold truce breaks the union which proved a watershed for the Windsors

Article Abstract:

The lawyers of Charles, Prince of Wales, Diana, Princess of Wales, and Buckingham Palace have issued statements indicating that the divorce case of the royal couple will be heard on July 15 1996, when a decree nisi will be made. The decree absolute is due six weeks from that date. The divorce settlement, which comes after some hostility, is as much as 17 million pounds sterling, a large part of which is expected to be funded by Queen Elizabeth of the UK, as Charles does not have the means to make the settlement personally.
