A faith that can move mountains

Article Abstract:

Movie director Renny Harlin, 34, collects a fee of around $3 million a time and, although Finnish, does everything in an extremely American way. He concentrates on sucking the audience into a film rather than just letting them sit and watch it. He does this by moving the camera all the time, often creating a feeling of vertigo in the audience. Old films used much longer shots but nowadays audiences have changed and get bored with long views from the same location. He also likes to keep his films exciting all the way through and tries to have at least one highlight in every reel, that is around every ten minutes.

The man with the golden gun

Article Abstract:

Joel Silver is a flamboyant American film producer who often uses explosions in his socially relevant films. He includes women and black actors in the casts. His films include 'Beverly Hills Cop' and 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit.' He lives in houses designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. He aims to attract the 18-35-year-old male audience with films such as 'Lethal Weapon 3,' designed as entertaining, good-guy wins against bad-guy stories.

Granny meets Antonioni

Article Abstract:

The organisers of the Venice Film Festival encourage many ordinary people to attend, although the fact that there are few purpose-built cinemas causes some problems. People often have to queue for a very long time, and this can lead to hostile attitudes. Films which have been shown so far include Woody Allen's 'Mighty Aphrodite,' Michelangelo Antonioni's 'Beyond the Clouds' and Thaddeus O'Sullivan's 'Nothing Personal.'
