A force to be reckoned with

Article Abstract:

Asian theatre is beginning to become established in the UK, following the trends already seen in the music, club and comedy scenes. However, Asian theatre companies wish to ensure that they can operate on their own terms, rather than just being part of a passing phase. These companies are boosting their profiles by concentrating on Asian communities. It is accepted that there is still considerable progress to be made, both in terms of encouraging playwrights and obtaining commissioning power within British theatre.

No safety net in the new big top

Article Abstract:

Some observers believe that circus troupe Conspiracy could be the main driving force behind a revival of the circus tradition in the UK. Its members are aware that the overall performance cannot compete with that of the most well known circus troupes, such as Cirque du Soleil, but they feel that their work has the merit of being true to itself. The performers borrow extensively from the different forms around them, and feel believe that they offer a holistic approach that appeals to many people.

Third time of asking

Article Abstract:

It is important to use all elements of the theatrical form, according to Irish director Conall Morrison. He has been involved in exploring forms not traditionally connected with Irish theatre, which he sees as tending to focus on poetic phrases and beautiful voices. He has particularly enjoyed working on a production of 'Martin Guerre' at the West Yorkshire Playhouse. In this case, he feels that he is merely visually folding out the story.
