A guilt trip with photo opportunities

Article Abstract:

European and American involvement in the Balkans is ineffective as commitment to principles requires fighting to enforce them. Radical thinking and military action would be more effective. The Clinton administration could have accepted the Vance-Owen plan. Problems in Serbia and Croatia may increase because of the American presence in Bosnia. The whole area should be dealt with. Conflicts should be taken care of before they escalate.

Romania prolongs its nightmare

Article Abstract:

Ion Iliescu has been re-elected president of Romania after apparently fair elections. The British government, holder of the presidency of the EC, scrutinised the elections and had misgivings about the central counting and the fact that 13% of the votes were invalid, far more than in other democracies. Iliescu is not an intellectual and exercisesstrong political control through fear and deliberate encouragement of ethnic hatred.

Some journalists are dying for a good story

Article Abstract:

The increasing competition between media networks is putting foreign correspondents in danger, as they feel under pressure to take greater risks to produce high interest news stories, especially in war zones. Problems are also being caused by new technology which allows events to be covered as they happen. There is also strong personal competition between journalists, leading them to disregard their personal safety.
