A lateral thinker in the material world

Article Abstract:

The most important aspect of a successful design is knowing the material, according to designer Sam Aloof. He believes that direct contact with the material, rather than using a computer, is essential. He places strong emphasis on moving away from any form that comes across as a two-dimensional shape. He is attracted to forms that cannot be drawn easily and to shapes that are influenced by the physical properties of the material.
