The US administration has made many miscalculations in handling military action against Afghanistan and the threat of further terrorist attacks within the US. There is still considerable conflict within the administration between those who wish to limit military action to Afghanistan and those who want a wider strategy, particularly against Iraq.

Students at the University of Paterson, NJ, are very sceptical about the aims of US military action in Afghanistan. They are rejecting unquestioning patriotism, and are prepared to directly challenge President George Bush.

Mujahedin forces start final battle to drive out al-Qa'ida

Article Abstract:

A large-scale attack has been launched by pro-western mujahedin troops on al-Qa'ida members hiding in the Melawa valley in the White Mountain region of Afghanistan. This was preceded by a bombardment by US aircraft overnight.
