A right royal rant gives us some modified food for thought

Article Abstract:

Charles, Prince of Wales, has voiced concerns about genetically modified (GM) foods. He is an organic farmer, and is able to pursue this interest with te help of funds from the government. The government is seeking to persuade the public to accept GM foods, and there are reasons to be concerned about the government's response to the debate on GM products. The previous government also assured the public that there was no need to be concerned about mad cow disease, while the new government has made an effort to be friendly to major multinational corporations.

Londoners should be free to vote for Red Ken

Article Abstract:

UK Prime Minister Tony Blair is keen to ensure that the first elected mayor of London, England, is not Ken Livingstone, who is associated with the most negative aspects of Labour activism in the 1980s. It is clear that Livingstone opposes some of the policies of the new-look Labour party, but he is a member of the party's National Executive Committee and it would not be right to deny Londoners the opportunity to vote for him. Livingstone would be an ideal mayor, as he is stylish without being glamorous and slightly vulgar without being brash.

Mr Brown should promote marriage, not baby bonds

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning UK Chancellor Gordon Brown's proposals for a baby bond are discussed. It is argued that it is not clear whether wealth redistribution and employment alone can improve the circumstances of the poorest people.
