A river city is reborn

Article Abstract:

Architects Norman Foster and Terry Farrell have been commissioned to draw up regeneration plans for the east and west sides of Hull, England. Foster will construct a complex covering 29 acres, while Farrell will be responsible for an oceanic tourist attraction on the city's waterfront. This attraction, named The Deep, will be situated close to a rocky outcrop where people will park their cars, using a new cycle path and footbridge to enter the city centre.

Some of the less appealing architectural elements dating from the 1960s and 1970s will be removed, and broad avenues will be created. Compulsory purchase orders have been issued, and two pubs, a car park and some smaller retail units will be removed.
