A schooling in real life

Article Abstract:

The Diploma of Achievement is a new skills-based course aimed at sixth-formers in the UK. It has already been adopted by more than 650 schools, and this level is expected to rise to up to 1,000 by late 1997. Designed by John Lewis, the former head of science at Malvern College, it emphasises numeracy, communication, interpersonal skills and computing. It aims to give students the skills they will require at university, with most of the coursework being designed around activities for students and classroom-based discussions.

As the hack said to her boss: 'Don't call me, call my agent.' (many United Kingdom writers and journalists now have agents)(Media +)

Article Abstract:

It has become increasingly common in the UK for relatively unknown journalists, producers, editors and writers to use an agent. This can be a very beneficial approach, with the agent being able to negotiate payment and advise about what work is available. Agents are increasingly playing a role in putting entire projects together, as many people now work freelance and there are many different independent companies. It is common for agents to be aware of jobs which are never officially advertised.
