A walking soundbite

Article Abstract:

Former MP Edwina Currie has on two occasions taken over the two-and-a-half hour Sunday morning show on Radio 5 Live which is normally presented by Eddie Mair. Her personality seems to come across very positively on radio, and it is likely that she will make further radio broadcasts. She generally asks very searching questions of her guests, about whom she tends to know a great deal, and is good at making comments which attract the interest of listeners. She is making very positive use of her experience as an interviewee.

We thought about little else for 12 solid months

Article Abstract:

There has been extensive media coverage of sex in 1998. This has been partly associated with the revelations about President Bill Clinton's relationship with Monica Lewinsky, and partly with the launch of Viagra, a treatment for impotence. It is becoming clear that revelations about sexual activity do not necessarily damage the reputation of a public figure, as ordinary people are now more able to separate public politics from private lives.

I thought, I'll be a writer

Article Abstract:

Making the decision while still at school in the 1960s to become a writer was extremely exciting, according to Hanif Kureishi. The decision gave him a firm sense of future, although he did not tell his friends about it, for fear of being ridiculed. He quickly learnt the discipline of writing regularly, even though he threw a lot of what he wrote away afterwards. He performed badly at school, but continued to find writing very interesting.
