After the outrage, the action

Article Abstract:

The recent execution of Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight others indicates that Nigeria's military regime is not afraid of attracting widespread international criticism or of alienating itself from other Commonwealth countries. This attitude has left Commonwealth leaders very uncertain about how to react. The only positive outcome of these events is likely to be that Commonwealth leaders will be determined to ensure that something like this cannot happen again.

Living with the enemy

Article Abstract:

US cruise missile attacks on Sudan, Afghanistan and Pakistan have placed British Muslims under considerable pressure. Radical Muslims such as Sheikh Omar Bakri Mohammed have been able to use the attacks, and the UK government's support for them, to their advantage, claiming that the US has now launched a war against all Muslims. Even extremely tolerant Muslims feel that the attacks have reduced the prospects of an integrated society in the UK.
