Aida's unsung heroes

Article Abstract:

The Harvey Goldsmith-backed production of Verdi's opera 'Aida' to open shortly at Earl's Court Stadium in London, England, requires around 499 extras. These include 120 soldiers, 11 bodybuilders, 20 ministers and six trumpeters. The extras, who receive no payment, must spend six days and nights in rehearsal, as well as attending three performances. The handling of the extras has appeared rather disorganized, and many extras have not been happy with the way they have been treated.

Those magnificent men ...

Article Abstract:

People who take part in aerobatics do not admit to any fear, claiming that each manoeuvre initially seems very difficult but becomes easy after practice. Those participating in the recent UK National Aeronautics Championships have generally become interested in the sport because it offers them the ability to test their aeroplane handling skills to their limits. The sport is very physically demanding, and has become more stressful as the standard of equipment has improved.

A wee bit of wellie among the wails

Article Abstract:

Relatively small Scottish Highland gatherings are important social events for local people, but tend to attract few tourists. Such events are uniquely Scottish, and may appear rather strange to non-Scots. They combine social interaction, sports and music, and are much less self-conscious than most other social events which take place in modern society. They clearly portray the uniqueness of the human spirit.
