All a question of keeping faith

Article Abstract:

Sally Beamish was a busy viola player until her instrument, a valuable 1747 Gabrielli, was stolen whereupon she turned to composing. When she studied viola and violin at the Royal Northern College of Music the principal told her to attend composition classes. After the theft she received a bursary from the Arts Council for composition and she wrote Commedia. When first performed in London it was hardly noticed but when the new Hebrides Ensemble included it in its debut concert it was ecstatically received.

It's the really big question

Article Abstract:

A new version of the panspermia concept, which indicates that life on Earth emerged from very light spores or bacteria escaping from the atmosphere of another planet, suggests that the cooling Earth was bombarded with comets. This process would have brought living material in the form of dormant bacteria, or simple fragments of DNA or RNA, to Earth. The raw materials of life would have been present on the surface of the Earth as soon as it cooled, forming the basis for evolution.
