All things bright and beautiful

Article Abstract:

Almost all fashion designers wear only very plain, dark colours. However, they are now starting to move towards collections which contain much brighter colours, even if this is not reflected in their own clothes. The latest colours are tangerine, red, pink, yellow and apple green. It is unlikely that this trend will be fully embraced by fashion designers in the US, who tend to focus on collections which are more practical than those produced by Japanese and European designers.

Less is more ... er, well, more or less

Article Abstract:

Ready-to-wear fashion design is currently focusing on minimalism, with outfits being very plain. However, this presents difficulties for designers who are dealing with haute couture clients, who expect much more for the large sums of money which they are prepared to spend. Haute couture outfits still tend to have many embellishments, such as sequins and swags, to satisfy this demand to show that a lot of money has been spent.

Feeling greedy for the Eighties?

Article Abstract:

There are indications that a revival of the 1980s trend of power dressing, characterised by tailored suits, shoulder pads and high heels, could soon take place. Fashion collections for spring/summer 1996 show a return to strong colours, especially bright red, yellow and green. There is likely to be stronger emphasis on powerful suits which make a clear statement about the wearer.
