America bites the bullet

Article Abstract:

The position of the US gun lobby has been greatly weakened by a series of gun attacks at schools. Those who support the right to carry arms have responded by enlisting the help of actor Charlton Heston, who has become president of the National Rifle Association (NRA). However, hardliners are suspicious about Heston, who demonstrated in favour of gun control following the assassination of Bobby Kennedy in 1968 and has stated that AK-47s are not appropriate for personal use. Despite this, the NRA needs his support if it is to regain its respectability.

Evil

Article Abstract:

Author Ron Rosenbaum has spent many years attempting to explain the motivations and nature of Adolf Hitler. He has also investigated the idea of evil itself and its place in the world. He was aware that this would be a very controversial issue, and has indeed attracted considerable criticism. In the case of Hitler, the more Rosenbaum explains, the more remains unexplained. He still finds himself unable to really get a grasp on Hitler, and does not feel confident enough to offer any firm answers.

Who wants this impossible job?

Article Abstract:

The controversy surrounding Nato secretary-general Willy Claes, who may well face corruption charges, highlights the lack of political will in the very centre of Nato. This is very disturbing, given that Europe's security is by no means assured. This case has come to symbolise the political decay which is now casting a shadow over the future of Nato.
