'Angel of Mostar' is under attack from all sides

Article Abstract:

Humanitarian worker Sally Becker has attracted considerable controversy as a result of going into very dangerous situations in places including Albania and Kosovo, Yugoslavia, without appearing to take account of the local situation and of the potential risk to those she is seeking to help. She has been in conflict with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees since she undertook various missions in Bosnia. She was recently shot in the leg in northern Albania while undertaking another mission to rescue children.

West sets the stage for a human tragedy

Article Abstract:

UN safe areas in Bosnia disarm Muslim defenders and enable the Serbs to starve the refugees to death. The Serbs in Srebrenica will not let the UN supply food or tents or organise a water supply for the refugees. Refugee workers describe the safe areas as prison camps. Bosnia's largest ethnic group is restricted to the smallest area. The six safe areas would need about 10,000 extra peace-keepers in addition to the 7,800 soldiers and 70 military observers.

Fallen angel of Mostar

Article Abstract:

Independent humanitarian worker Sally Becker has attracted considerable controversy. Most recently, she was shot in the leg in northern Albanian while seeking to evacuate 25 children from Kosovo, Yugoslavia, to the UK. She believes that the shooting was an attempt to assassinate her. She recognizes that she creates significant problems for official United Nations relief work, but feels that her work, which began in Bosnia, has given meaning to her life.
