Animal testing curbed - but for the victims the change is only cosmetic

Article Abstract:

The UK government has banned the testing of cosmetic ingredients on animals. This move has been welcomed by animal rights campaigners, but they also point out that most cosmetics products on sale in the UK will still have been tested on animals. This is because cosmetics companies based in the UK purchase most of the ingredients for their products abroad, where a ban on the testing of ingredients on animals is not in force. Campaigners are now to lobby for a strengthening of European Union animal testing regulations.

Beauty without frivolity

Article Abstract:

Many British women are now seeking simplicity and minimalism in beauty products. Manufacturers are responding to this trend with understated packaging and natural ingredients. Customers are more likely to purchase products with clear, well displayed information on the packaging, and will not just simply choose the most attractive bottle. However, some observers believe that consumer trends do not last very long and that more luxurious, elaborate packaging will soon become fashionable again.

Nasal warfare

Article Abstract:

The UK market for full-strength scent, eau de toilette and eau de parfum remains relatively underdeveloped compared with markets in other countries. Indeed, sales of perfumes and fragrances fell in value terms in the period 1992 to 1996. However, there is growing demand for perfumed bath and skincare products. There has also been particular success recently for Calvin Klein's CKOne scent, and there has been a revival in sales of classic French perfumes.
