'Antics of the right' exasperate Labour

Article Abstract:

The Labour Party cannot ignore its problem with elements of the right wing, who have apparently been interfering with parliamentary candidate selection. The Labour Party has already dealt severely with the left wing, so it cannot disregard the fact that the right wing union of the electricians, the EEPTU is increasing its branch affiliations and numbers of delegates in the West Midlands. It is rumoured that some delegates are not even electricians, and that the move is to oust present candidates or Members of Parliament and select candidates from the union.

Labour proposes new London government

Article Abstract:

The Labour party has drawn up plans for a new Greater London Authority, made up of a 'linear city' running from Heathrow in the west to Docklands in the east. The new authority would be merely strategic, acting against claims by the Conservative party that Labour plans to re-establish the old Greater London Council. It would be responsible for the Metropolitan police, along with fire, planning, economic development, civil defence, land use and strategic waste disposal.

Labour's leader weaves a magic spell with words

Article Abstract:

Neil Kinnock is at his best on a conference platform. Applause encourages him. His party is more centrally controlled thanks to his winning arguments. He has turned the party into an electable one by persuading and bullying the national executive. Conference texts provided for journalists are the last draft; the actual speech includes well-timed adlibs that have impact. He writes his speeches himself.
