Art that falls between two stools

Article Abstract:

Italian artist Piero Manzoni, who died in 1963 and whose work is being exhibited at the Serpentine Gallery in London, England, had a significant impact on contemporary art, especially Young British Art. He sometimes designated humans as art works by signing them or issuing them with certificates, while the 'Linea' series is made up of cardboard tubes containing scrolls of paper on which he had drawn lines of varying lengths. All his works aimed to question some of the basic premises of artwork.

Article Abstract:

The Whitechapel Gallery in London, England, is holding an exhibition entitled 'Speed: Visions of an Accelerated Age.' This exhibition looks at the high speed of modern life and how this is portrayed in modern art. One of the most striking works in the exhibition is Matisse's 'The Windshield, On the Villacoublay Road,' painted in 1917. Other exhibits include Chris Burden's 'CBTV to Einstein,' a small plane that was once flown inside Concorde.

It's the way you hang 'em

Article Abstract:

The ICA in London, England, is currently staging an exhibition entitled 'Belladonna,' which covers various works by 29 contemporary artists. These include working models, videos and paintings. The exhibition is arranged around the theme of late-romantic morbidity and hysteria, drawing parallels between the temperament of the 1980s and that of the 1990s. Its main impact is as a curatorial intervention, becoming a spectacle in its own right.
