As old as yesterday's newspapers

Article Abstract:

Reaction to the news that both Peregrine Worsthorne and Bernard Levin are to give up writing their long-standing newspaper columns has been rather muted. Worsthorne has been dropped as column writer by the Sunday Telegraph newspaper following a long series of disagreements, while Levin has been dropped by the Times newspaper following falling popularity for his column. Both men have long been associated with newspaper publishing in the UK, and their departure represents the end of an era.

Monsoons pour tragedy on Bangladesh

Article Abstract:

Serious flooding in Bangladesh has killed at least 700 people so far. Some two-thirds of Dhaka, Bangladesh, is under water, making life extremely difficult for ordinary people. Under-floor water storage tanks have been penetrated by flood water in many homes, and there is a lack of safe drinking water. Residents of rural areas are becoming malnourished, and there have been outbreaks of disease. It is anticipated that there will be serious problems even once the floodwaters have receded.

Storytellers rule OK

Article Abstract:

The most successful leaders are those who can gain support through outstanding storytelling abilities, according to US psychologist Howard Gardner. People are most attracted to public figures who can tell a new story which gives a fresh vision of who they are and of future directions. The storyteller must also be seen as the embodiment of the story if people are to be motivated enough to take direct action.
