As the actor said to the doctor

Article Abstract:

Strathcona Theatre Company, made up of learning-disabled actors, is holding workshops which are designed to reduce prejudice against learning-disabled people. The actors set the pace of the workshops, and work towards finding common ground with those attending. Research undertaken among people who have attended these workshops indicate that widely-held views about the abilities of learning-disabled people are radically changed as a result of the experience gained during the workshop session.

Sisters are doing it for themselves

Article Abstract:

There are now a considerable number of nurses in the UK who have been trained in certain surgical techniques. Experienced theatre nurses will often be responsible for large parts of routine operations, supervised by a surgeon, and there is no reason why they should not do procedures independently if they have been properly trained. Some observers now believe that better facilities should be established to train non-medical and non-surgical staff to undertake routine work.

Contraception that suits to a T

Article Abstract:

The Mirena contraceptive system, which is soon to be launched at a medical symposium in London, UK, is said to combine the best features of the mini-Pill and the intrauterine device (IUD). It is made up of a plastic T-shaped frame, with a store of progestogen around the vertical stem. It delivers a lower dose of contraceptive hormone than the Pill, and cuts down on the side-affects normally associated with the IUD.
