Tribunal statistics for 1995/96

Article Abstract:

UK industrial tribunals handled 9.1% more cases in 1995-95 than the previous year, rising to 67,235 cases. The numbers of unfair dismissal and redundancy pay claims fell 7% and 1.6%, respectively, and sexual discrimination claims also declined. By contrast, unlawful wage deduction, breach of contract, and racial discrimination claims all rose. Applicants' success rates generally fell, although legal representation was beneficial to success in many instances. Discrimination compensation, pre-hearing reviews, and appeals to the Employment Appeals Tribunal are also discussed.
